Top Tips To Treat And Prevent Colds

A simple cold isn\'t so simple for seniors. Now, it\'s true that by adulthood you have been exposed to so many cold and flu bugs that you are immune to many of the sniffles that your grandchildren are likely to develop in a given winter. The older you are, the less vigorously your immune system responds to, so while your body is busy fighting off a cold, another infection can slip in. Colds occur more often during the winter months but cold weather does not cause colds. Usually it happens because people are close together. Will there be a cure for common cold? Not likely, however, here are some of the ways that can help you to get through colds.

Consume Vitamin C. Although it may not be a cure-all, vitamin C does bolster the body\'s immune system. And surprisingly, consume vitamin C at a high dose can help to stop the viruses from growing. You may consider taking 1,000 milligrams six to eight times a day for up to a week.

Boost your immune system. There is good evidence that aerobic exercise does increase effectiveness of the immune system. You will feel better and less likely prone to sickness if you walk just five days a week between 30 to 45 minutes.

Rest more. When your cold leaves you feeling wiped out, it is just trying to tell you something. To fight the cold and recover your health, you need the restorative powers of sleep and rest. It helps a lot to get to bed on time when you are fighting against the germs. Even when during the day, try to lie down and take it easy whenever you can.

Water your cold down. Drink as many glasses of water as you can - at least eight glasses a day. It does not matter whether you feel thirsty or not. It is good for your health. People do not realize that you will become dehydrated when you have a cold. You need water to fight off the infection. Please do bear in mind that even when you are getting over a cold, the weakness you still feel can be a sign that you are dehydrated. Try as far as possible not to drink something that contains caffeine in it as they will only dehydrate you even more.

Drink some soup. Soups are good for your health and they can lighten your spirit, warm you, and nourish you. Although chicken soup is one of the main soups that many people have recommended when they have colds. However, can also consider vegetable soup including onions, cabbage, carrot, potato, and a little of sliced ginger.

Take a zinc lozenge. It was proven that zinc can lessen the severity of a cold. You may take three or four times a day until it dissolves in your mouth. Or take up to 50 milligrams of zinc in supplements form at least once every day. Try to take it on a full stomach as zinc can make you feel nauseous.

Eat the stinking rose. You can also consider taking garlic capsules, even the popular odor-free ones sold in store. Because no one wants to get too close and risk of catching a cold from you, why not try a little bit of garlic, straight, fresh, and in a palatable form? When you put your bowl of soup on the table, you can actually press a clove or two fresh garlic right into your bowl so you are not cooking it at all, but it gets to be dispersed into the warm soup.
