3 Common Quitting Smoking Symptoms
Almost every smoker wants to stop smoking. In fact over 70% of smokers do, most of them wish they never started. When we do attempt to quit we are almost brainwashed into thinking how difficult it is, and how we will suffer from those dreaded quitting smoking symptoms. We need to find out what these are, and how they can affect us.
1. Irritability is one of the most common. There are many smokers who recognise that giving up smoking will make them irritable, and so they tell all their friends and family to be aware of this. The question is why do people get irritable in the first place? The reason is that smoking is drug addiction, and if a drug addict cannot get their fix they will be irritated and frustrated. The longer the period of abstinence, the worse this irritation will become. If you are quitting smoking cold turkey you are even more likely to show symptoms of irritability.
2. Concentration. Many smokers believe that smoking helps them to concentrate. If you are attempting to stop smoking it will be pretty obvious that your mind will be on smoking. This makes it hard to concentrate on almost anything because deep in the back of your mind you crave those cigarettes. This is how i felt when i tried to stop smoking. However, i noticed that when i played a game of squash i was no longer thinking about a cigarette because i was fully concentrating on the game. The thought of smoking never crossed my mind for about an hour. It was only until i had finished the game that my mind returned to smoking. You may have had a similar experience when you were so engrossed in something. This led me to believe that the inability to concentrate was all in my mind.
3. Relaxation. Smokers believe that smoking relaxes them. If a smoker feels stressed, more often than not they reach for that cigarette to calm them down and make them feel more relaxed. This is a common myth that all smokers feel. Remember, smoking is drug addiction. The feeling of relaxation is brought about by ending the craving to nicotine. The only problem now is that the smokers has just inhaled more nicotine and has started the whole process of drug addiction again.
If you watch a group of people who you know smoke, for instance work colleagues who are in a long meeting and cannot smoke, they will not look relaxed, most probably they will be fidgeting or doing something with their hands. The non-smokers in that meeting will not be doing this. Now, as soon as that meeting is over the smokers will head outside to smoke. If you observe them now, they will be the happiest people on planet earth, looking totally relaxed and chatting away. The reason is that they have just satisfied their craving for nicotine.
These are just a few quitting smoking symptoms, and are the most common. But if you can understand why you may experience them it will make it easier to quit smoking.
If you get yourself in the right frame of mind you will not experience any of these symptoms. If you do want to stop smoking there is a way that actually makes the process enjoyable. Yep, you heard that right, and what's more, it is one of the quickest and cheapest methods around.
